The Desertification Monument

In the centuries leading up to 1730, the area currently known as Tisvilde Hegn nature reserve turned into a sandy wasteland. By dint of hard work and a programme of forestation, the encroaching desertification was halted. "Sandflugtsmonumentet" (The Desertification Monument), erected in 1788 on a hilltop at the end of the avenue "Alléen" in Tibirke, commemorates the achievement.
