1864 bus ride - In the footsteps of the soldiers

A guided bus tour for groups south of the border.

The war of 1864 started out south of the border we know today and on this bus ride the guide will give you more knowledge of this disastrous year.

During the tour, you will hear about the bombardment of the small village Mysunde. Visit the museum at Danevirke and hear about the Danevirke position from where the Danish army retreated in the dead of night. At Sankelmark the guide will tell you about the heroic rear party.

Tour description:
We cross the border at Kruså and drive towards Brodersby where we take the ferry to Myssunde and get a guided tour through the town to the Memorial. Afterwards we drive via Gottorp Castle, where it would be possible to have a short dinner break with e.g. Sandwiches close to the bus, towards Danevirke where we visit the museum and redoubt XIV. After Danevirke we drive towards Sankelmark where we visit the memorials. Shortly afterwards, it is possible to stop for coffee and cake. The tour ends with a visit to the old cemetery in Flensburg, where Isted Lion stands. If time permits, we drive past the Bøffelkobbel House on the way back to Dybbøl Banke.

The trip will not be suitable for walking-impaired as there will be some walking on uneven terrain as well as stairs along the way.
