Experience Handel’s Messiah at Frederiksborg Castle Church

Frederiksborg Castle Church invites you to a unique interpretation of G. F. Handel’s renowned oratorio Messiah. Experience the piece in an almost chamber music-like setting, where the beautiful historical surroundings and authentic instruments bring the work closer to its original form.

An Intimate Interpretation of a Classical Masterpiece

This special version of Messiah is far from the grand performances often seen worldwide. With a smaller choir and four soloists, who also perform as part of the choir, the piece is presented in a more intimate, chamber-like form. The instruments are replicas of those from the 1740s, creating an authentic sound that transports the audience back to Handel’s time.

A Different Kind of Narrative

Unlike many other oratorios, Messiah does not tell a continuous story. Charles Jennens, who wrote the biblical text, chose to present a series of passages from various biblical scriptures, giving the piece its unique structure. The audience can look forward to hearing all the famous choral and solo sections that have made the work a staple of Christmas music traditions.
