La Dolce Vita

Cultural treasures from Pompeii dating back to the time before the disastrous eruption of Mount Vesuvius offer a rare insight into ancient history. In those days, Pompeii was the gathering point for the Romans around the Mediterranean Sea, and the sweet life – la dolce vita – was lived to the fullest. A visit to the special exhibition at MOMU Moesgaard Museum will present you with a snapshot of this golden age.

The End of the World at Naples Bay

In the year 79 A.D., disaster struck Pompeii, Herkulaneum and the surrounding settlements. Mount Vesuvius’ eruption and the devastating waves of volcanic ashes and rocks was thought to be the end of the world. On display at MOMU Moesgaard Museum are objects from this era which have never before been presented outside of Italy, for instance the iconic casts of human bodies from Pompeii.

You also get the unique opportunity to learn more about the Roman rescue operation and the new knowledge that has surfaced due to the excavation of the two cities.
