Warriors and Other Scoundrels

Experience the dramatic story of the Wendish attack on Ærø in the 12th century – a pivotal event that led to the creation of the ramparts at Søby and left its mark on the island’s history and landscape.

Welcome to “Warriors and Other Scoundrels” – a breathtaking weekend at Søbygaard, where history isn’t just told – it’s fought, shouted, and forged right before your eyes!

The event spans two days, during which all visitors can, among other things, immerse themselves in the world of Viking and medieval warriors: experience combat shows and hear the clash of swords on shields, touch chainmail and feel the weight of ancient war gear, send the children to warrior school – if they dare – and much more!

Program for June 21 and 22:

  • 10:00 – Site opens
  • 11:00 – Presentation of Iron Age weapons and equipment
  • 11:30 – Warrior school for children
  • 12:00 – Presentation of Viking Age and medieval weapons and equipment
  • 13:00 – Warriors fight on the battlefield
  • 14:00 – Presentation of the barber-surgeon’s work
