In the middle of Kolding stands the castle of Koldinghus.
It was here in 1268, that the Danish king built a castle to guard the border between the kingdom of Denmark and the duchy of Schleswig. The earliest preserved parts date to the 15th century. In the middle of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt as a Renaissance castle.
Today, Koldinghus contains collections including interiors dating from the 1500s until the present day, Romantic and Gothic objects, as well as early Danish pictorial art and crafts products, mainly consisting of ceramics and silver.
The newly-restored wings of the castle are a world-class attraction.
