The apothecary garden in Gudbjerg
Stop by this beautiful memorial park and learn about Christian D. A. Hansen who has had a great impact on the local area.
In 1874, Christian Hansen (25 February 1843-20 June 1916) founded Chr. Hansen's Technical-Chemical Laboratory in Frederiksberg. The company was founded on a groundbreaking discovery that revolutionised the nascent industrial dairy production. Today, that same product - purified, standardised animal rennet - is still part of the product portfolio and became the basis for a global food industry group. The company, which supplies cultures and enzymes all over the world, has its roots in South Funen. Specifically, the Mullerup estate in Gudbjerg, which dates back to 1474. The estate has had countless owners over the years, but in 1882 Christian Hansen bought the estate and it has been in the family ever since. Today, the owner is Christian Hansen's great-great-granddaughter, Nina Bernhoft.
In the memorial park you will find a pavilion where you can read more about Christian Hansen, his work and life. Here you will also find information about the medicinal plants planted in the garden. The park is an extension of Gudbjerg Church where Christian Hansen is buried.
