Guided walking tour – In Duke John’s footsteps

Join a guided walking tour in Duke John’s footsteps. Duke John was responsible for Haderslev’s golden era – a period of about 100 years. It all started in the mid-1500s. Duke John was the younger brother of King Christian III. As Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Haderslev, John built Hansborg, a magnificent Renaissance castle, and Hertug Hans Hospital and other social institutions, including a poor house, in Haderslev.

The guided tour includes stories and anecdotes from the Duke’s very eventful life and explains his importance for the city of Haderslev. The tour takes you through the old town. We pass pretty, historical buildings on the way, all of them dating back to the Duke’s lifetime. This tour is new in 2021 as Haderslev celebrates the 500-year anniversary of Duke John’s birth. As every year, we celebrate Duke John’s birthday at the Hertug Hans Festival in the first weekend of June.
