A Journey into Strid’s Universe

Kunstmuseum Brandts invites you to explore the imaginative world of Danish illustrator and author Jakob Martin Strid in the exhibition The Fantastic Bus. Featuring over 70 large-scale original drawings from his latest book, the show offers a rare glimpse into Strid’s creative process and artistic vision.

The Story Behind The Fantastic Bus

Follow Taku the dog and Spir the cat as they team up with their friends to build a fantastic bus and search for the mythical land of Balanka. Their mission? To find the saffron lily – said to have healing powers – and hopefully save their sick friend Timo. It’s a heartfelt tale of friendship, adventure and the power of imagination.

Art Up Close

Strid’s illustrations are packed with colour, detail and emotion. At Brandts, you’ll experience them in large format – created using watercolours, acrylic markers, pencil and ink. Step in close and discover the quirky touches and thoughtful storytelling that make his work so beloved.

Influenced by the Greats

Jakob Martin Strid draws inspiration from global icons like Bill Watterson, Charles Schulz, Astrid Lindgren, Tove Jansson and Hayao Miyazaki, while also continuing the Danish tradition of artists like Storm P., Claus Deleuran and Rune T. Kidde. His unique blend of styles speaks to all generations.

Getting There

Kunstmuseum Brandts is centrally located in Odense and easily accessible by public transport. From Odense Train Station, several bus lines stop near the museum.
