Harre Vig – History and Landscape by the Limfjord

At the bottom of Harre Vig, the landscape is shaped by striking hills that in places drop steeply down to a flat coastal plain. This area offers impressive views and a unique geological character formed by the forces of the Ice Age.

Further out towards Sallingsund, near Lysen, remains of settlements from the late Mesolithic period have been found. The most famous is the fur hunter station at Hjerk Nor, where intensive hunting of wildcats took place, indicating a specialized hunter culture.

On the ridges near Harre, Vile, and Kybehuse, numerous burial mounds are located. In some of the leveled mounds, graves from the Single Grave Culture of the Late Stone Age, the Dagger Period, and the Bronze Age have been discovered. These findings offer a fascinating insight into the area's long and rich history.
