Sandvad Kro

In the beautiful landscape between Silkeborg and Horsens, you will find this historic inn with royal privileges. The restaurant serves delicious dishes for both lunch and dinner – and you are also very welcome to stop by for coffee and cake, perhaps as part of a walk along the Gudenå Trail or a visit to The Uncovered Bridge.

Historic dining spot in the Bakkelandet hills

Sandvad Kro boasts a long and proud history dating all the way back to the 16th century. To this day, traditions are still honoured within the old premises, which now house a restaurant and host private events. Thanks to its location in the heart of a beloved natural area with many nearby attractions, it is the perfect place to combine a day in nature with a delicious meal in the inn’s charming setting.

A light lunch or a three-course dinner

At Sandvad Kro, the menu reflects the inn's high standards for local, quality ingredients.

For a light lunch, try the inn's charcuterie – or perhaps the tarteletter, (Danish patty shells with chicken fillings), a salad with salmon, or a classic steak.

The evening menu is comprised of a three-course option, with a large selection of veal, pork, poultry, or fish. However, keep room for the savoring dessert choices.

See the current menu on Sanvad Kro's webpage.

Coffee and cake

You are always welcome to stop by for a cosy afternoon treat with a slice of homemade cake and a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or tea. There is a wide selection of barista-style coffees, but if you prefer a good old-fashioned black coffee, you will of course find that too.

The beautiful surroundings

Sandvad Kro is located north of Horsens between Østbirk and Vestbirk, right in the heart of the stunning natural area known as Bakkelandet. Here, you will find a hilly landscape featuring some of Denmark’s highest peaks and most scenic viewpoints. Within a short distance you can explore Yding Skovhøj, Sukkertoppen, Ejer Bavnehøj and Slaggård Banke. The region is home to numerous forests and natural lakes, making it a popular destination for nature lovers. The Nature Trail Horsens-Silkeborg passes close by the inn, and you can follow it all the way to The Uncovered Bridge. The inn is also situated right next to Fyel Bathing Lake.
