Summer holiday with myths and legends for children at Frederiksborg Castle

Frederiksborg Castle invites families to a magical journey during the summer holidays. Myths, Gods, and mysterious creatures come to life in the castle’s halls and courtyards.

A hunt for creatures and legends

Every day during the school holidays, children and adults can join guided tours through Frederiksborg’s grand rooms. Look up to discover hidden dragons, fish, and Svantevit carved in the ceilings. The tour also introduces Slattenpatten, water spirits, trolls, and ancient gods such as Hercules and Saturn – all brought to life through storytelling, movement, and sensory experiences. The tour is available in both Danish and English.

Create your mythical creature

In the castle’s inner courtyard, children can create their own friendly – or perhaps fearsome – creature. Using twigs from the castle gardens, yarn, and fabrics, they shape figures inspired by the myths of Frederiksborg—a creative break outdoors, accompanied by the sound of Neptune’s fountain and church bells.

Explore on your own

Families can also explore the castle independently using the special 'Fantastic Frederiksborg for Children' signs or with an audio guide suitable for older children. Visit the old wine cellar and the lapidarium, where ancient Greek and Roman gods await. Tickets are valid all day, allowing for breaks in the baroque gardens or the nearby playground.
