Stay with views of Roskilde Fjord

The campsite stretches all the way down to the fjord and offers open grassy areas with views across the water. Here you will find one shelter with sleeping space for 4–5 people, located in a small, sheltered dip among trees approximately 200 metres from the fjord.

The large tent area provides space for many tents – including larger groups – and the area is also well suited for hammocks, as the trees around the shelter may be used.

Facilities and stay

Close to the shelter and campsite there is parking as well as a toilet building with an outdoor drinking water tap. The toilets are open during the summer season from early April until mid-October, and the ladies’ toilet is wheelchair accessible.

There are two fire pits on site: one with a grill grate close to the shelter and one located near the fjord. During the summer season, firewood for free use is placed on site once a week.

After your stay, the site must be left tidy and all rubbish must be taken with you.

Booking and use of the shelter site

Groups of fewer than 10 people may use the site freely on a first come, first served basis, and booking is not possible.

For groups of more than 10 people, it is necessary to book the shelter site free of charge via Lejre Municipality’s self-service system. This helps ensure considerate use of the site for everyone.

Fjord life, routes and access

The site is easily accessible whether you arrive on foot, by bicycle via the Fjord Path (Regional Route 40), by canoe or kayak directly from the fjord, or by car. There is easy landing for canoes and kayaks at the shoreline.

Swimming is possible from the small beach at the site or from the sandy beach with a bathing jetty at Gershøj Harbour. The harbour also welcomes visiting yachts, and there is a footpath along the water from the harbour to the shelter site.

Fishing can be done directly from the shoreline or at Gershøj Reef south of the village, which is known as a good spot for sea trout fishing from land.
