Ravnsholte field shelter, Bidstrup Forests
Stay overnight in a shelter at the edge of the forest at Ravnsholte Mark with views over a lake and meadow.

Overnight stay with views and tranquillity
The shelter site consists of one shelter with space for up to 6 people. It is open towards the south-west and is beautifully situated on the edge of the forest with views over both a lake and a fenced meadow. Here you wake up to birdsong and experience the changing light of the forest from early morning until sunset. The location makes the shelter suitable for hikers, cyclists and families seeking a simple and atmospheric night in nature.
In the heart of Bidstrup Forests’ open landscapes
Ravnsholte Mark is part of the large and varied Bidstrup Forests, known for their rich wildlife and plant life, as well as open landscapes, old woodland areas and small lakes. The area invites quiet moments, short walks and breaks where nature is allowed to take centre stage. The open meadow and the nearby forest create a special sense of space and outlook.
Facilities and use of the site
The shelter cannot be booked and is used freely on a first come, first served basis, meaning that the site is shared with other outdoor visitors. Please be considerate and be prepared to find an alternative overnight option if the shelter is already occupied.
If you wish to light a fire, you must bring your own firewood or charcoal, as no fuel is provided on site. Use the fire pit with care and always make sure that the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the shelter site.
Drinking water can be collected from the tap at the forest ranger’s residence on Skovvej 52, located approximately 200 metres from the shelter site. There are no other facilities at the site, so it is recommended to bring all necessary equipment and leave the area tidy and in the same condition as it was found.
Access, parking and routes
Parking is available at the Danish Nature Agency’s car park “Ravnsholte Skov, Mortenstrupvej”, just after Mortenstrupvej 37, 4174 Jystrup. From here it is approximately a 1 km walk to the shelter via forest roads and small paths. Driving to the shelter site is not permitted – not even for transporting equipment.
The shelter site is also located close to both Munkevejen, cycle route 88, and the Danish Pilgrimage Route, which both pass about 200 metres from the site. This makes Ravnsholte Mark Shelter an ideal overnight stop on longer hiking or cycling trips through the natural landscapes of central Zealand.
