Bogense Town Stream
Have you been in the stream? If not, you can take a walk along the beautiful stream that winds through Bogense and has played an important role for the town thanks to its clean, fresh water.

The story of Bogense town stream goes all the way back to 1755. The stream begins at a health spring on the fields of Reveldrup. From there it runs past Fredskoven and winds its way through town before finally flowing into Bogense Harbour. Over the years, local women used the stream for big wash days, and it also used to be important in case of fires and as drinking water.
Bogense Bridge, which crosses the stream, was the western entrance to the market town.
The stream rises west of Harritslevgård and used to provide power for several watermills, including Over Mølle by Harritslevgård, Neder Mølle by Tyrekro, and Kappelsmøllen further along Odensevej.
If you suddenly hear a splash, don’t worry — it’s just the big sea trout swimming in the stream. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot the otters that moved into the stream in 2019.
It’s also said that the mermaids, who had their castle just north of Bogense, swam in the town stream — which is why Bogense is still called “the city of mermaids” today. Another local legend says you’re not a real Bogenser until you’ve taken a dip in Bybækken.
Dogs must be kept on a leash on the walk along the stream.
