Craftsmanship thrives in many fields – from artisanal food production and the cultivation of heritage varieties to bespoke tailoring, machinery and horseshoes.
But many of the crafts that were once commonplace have been consigned to oblivion. Others are practised by very few and are in danger of disappearing. They live on in the hands of the craftsmen, not in the pages of books.
Throughout May, Den Gamle By is therefore putting the spotlight on craftsmanship and letting you get up close – so close, in fact, that you can get your hands on lime, clay and earth, and be near fire, iron and horsehair. Workshops are opening, craftspeople are sharing their stories, and weekends offer a chance to delve into various types of craftsmanship.
