Endelave Museum

Centrally located in Endelave town, Endelave Museum is housed in the island's old parsonage. When you step into the museum, you enter a time capsule. The house is furnished like an old Endelave home from 1920, and here you will find several exciting exhibitions.

Small, charming island museum

The museum on the holiday island of Endelave is not large. But that wouldn’t be very authentic for a historical museum representing a small island community, would it? However, the old, thatched parsonage holds a rich and exciting story about life on an isolated island through the ages. The house is set up as an old Endelave home from around 1920, with many old furnishings and items donated or made available by residents of Endelave, or by relatives with roots on the island.

Endelave Museum hosts rotating themed exhibitions focusing on interesting cultural-historical topics from Endelave. Each themed exhibition consists of posters, pictures, and relevant items, and the exhibition is available for two years. The 2024-2025 themed exhibition is “Endelave Church - renovations and changes through time.”

When you visit Endelave Museum to experience how daily life was conducted on an island far from the mainland in olden times, you can also add sound to your visit. With your smartphone, you can listen to stories about eight different items in the museum. Or, get an audio guide for a small city walk starting from the museum courtyard.

Memorial room for Agda

In 1944, Endelave was struck by tragedy when the then-Endelave ferry s/s AGDA hit a mine and sank. Everyone aboard the ship perished in the accident. At Endelave Museum, there is a memorial room dedicated to the victims and the ship, which sailed between Horsens, Alrø, Hjarnø, Snaptun, and Endelave.

Opening hours and prices

Endelave Museum is open daily during the summer and autumn holidays. Additionally, it is open on weekends from May to September. You can see the exact opening hours and prices on Endelave Museum’s website.

Lots of activities during the summer and autumn holidays

In the museum courtyard, Endelave Museum, in collaboration with the island’s sports association, organizes various activities aimed at children.

The activities, in general, are for both children and adults. The many activities make it possible for the island’s visitors to stay active and have fun with activities such as hiking, yoga, football, or SUP school. You can read more about Athe free activities on this page.

The museum also regularly holds lectures where you can learn about, among other things, the sinking of AGDA. Keep an eye on Endelave Museum’s Facebook page for announcements of upcoming events.
