Esrum stream path - A walk with heath-covered hills and bronze statues

Here, you'll get a taste of the unique North Zealand landscape, of which the National Park Royal North Zealand is made: beautiful views of the sea, heath-covered hills, a great museum experience at Rudolph Tegner Museum & Statuepark, and a walk into the open countryside.

Here begins the tour

The journey starts at Dronningmølle Station, where you turn right and follow Dronningmølle Stationsvej down to road 237, Villingebæk Strandvej. Here, you turn right - but consider going left to visit Drømmehuset and Drømmecafeen before resuming the route and walking along the water to Strandkrogen and the campsite. Turn right off Strandkrogen and right again onto the path that leads under the railway. Look for the wooden sign that shows the way to Rudolph Tegners Museum.

Visit Rudolph Tegners Museum and Statuepark

Follow the narrow gravel path up through the heath-covered landscape. The museum has a permanent exhibition of Rudolph Tegner's works and changing current exhibitions. Behind the museum, you'll find Sørens Cafe.

Continue on the Esrum stream-path 

After the visit, you need to go via the parking lot onto Museumsvej, which leads you to the village of Villingerød on Villingerødvej. The farm outlet from Birkely is on the right. But you have to cross the road and continue onto the path. You are now on the Esrum stream path, a signposted route to Gilleleje Golf Club. Along the way, you'll find information boards with QR codes to learn more about Esrum Ådal, Gilleleje Golf Club, and their restaurant Bistro Nord. There is also a cosy picnic area along the way.

The tour ends at the clubhouse. You can either choose to return to Dronningmølle or walk along Sophienlund Allé, Søgårdsvej, and Firhøjvej and take the train from Firhøj Station.

NOTE: This tour will change its route as the restored landscape at Søborg Sø falls into place. Right now, the tour ends in Ferle. But it will gradually be extended to Dragstrup and further down to Søborg Sø.

Practical Information

• Surface: You walk on sidewalks/roads until Strandkrogen, where you follow a narrow gravel path up to the museum. Then there is gravel on Museumsvej and the Esrum stream path.
• Length: 5.3 km
• The tour is suitable for: Children and adults - and dogs on a leash (no access for dogs at the museum).
• Signage: From Strandkrogen, a wooden sign shows the way to the museum. From Villingerød Church, the Esrum stream path is signposted.
• Toilets: Dronningmølle Strand, cafes & museum
• Weather conditions: The path along the Esrum stream path is well-built and keeps shoes dry all year round.
• Season: Rudolph Tegners Museum & Statuepark is open from mid-April to mid-October. But you can always visit the Statuepark - and it's even more impressive in winter! Gilleleje Golf Club is open all year round, and you are welcome to walk on their paths respecting the golfers. Keep an eye out for any stray golf balls from the course.
