Gerding Church

Gerding Church is the smallest village church in Himmerland and a fine example of the area’s historic church architecture. The church was dedicated to Saint George and contains several interesting traces from different periods.

The chancel and nave date back to the Romanesque period, while the porch was added in 1893. The year before, in 1892, a small roof turret was installed, giving the church its distinctive character. It is believed that the church never had windows on the north side, which was common in many Romanesque churches.

Inside the church, you will find an altarpiece from 1882 and a pulpit from the 18th century. The Romanesque baptismal font is accompanied by a baptismal dish from the Netherlands, dated to the period 1625–1650. The church’s candlesticks are from the same period and add to the historic atmosphere of the small church interior.
