The sculpture consists of two ladders that symbolically stretch towards the sky and serve as the church's landmark. The crooked and twisted design of the ladders, with the rungs placed far apart, can be interpreted as an illustration of the challenges and trials that often accompany the human spiritual journey toward the divine.

The lower ladder refers to the biblical story of Jacob's dream from the Old Testament, in which Jacob sees a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending on it. This ladder represents humanity's quest for the divine.

The upper ladder is inverted and ends with a cross at the top, symbolizing how God comes to humankind through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This element emphasizes the core message of Christianity – God's descent to humanity to bring salvation.
