From dream to wine - Holmegaard's path to winemaking.
It all started as a dream, but today Jeanne and Ditlev are standing in their own vineyard. Without prior experience, but with great enthusiasm, they plunged into the work of tending the vines. After a crash course in viticulture, Jeanne enrolled in a more in-depth course to learn about pruning, soil work, harvesting, and winemaking.
Since 2023, they have been fermenting their own grapes in a small winery – a process that has involved a steep learning curve and continues to evolve. They love working in the lush vineyard, where nature provides a welcome contrast to their everyday lives as a nurse and a teacher. Here, they find peace, presence, and a deeper connection to the land.
Every year in October, three generations gather in the vineyard to harvest the grapes. It has become a tradition for their parents to help bring in the harvest. In this way, the dream Ditlev's parents had back in 2010 has now become a reality – though with a few detours along the way.
