Lindenborg Stream and Valley

Lindenborg Stream rises from a spring in the valley near the village of Nysum, south of Rold Forest. The same spring is also the source of Simested Stream, which flows south. Lindenborg Stream is 47 km long and drains an area of around 225 km². The stream and its surroundings are protected along the stretch through Rold Forest and onwards through Gravlev Valley.

On its way through the forest from Rold to Røde Mølle, the stream follows its natural, unregulated course. Here, it winds through dense, lush woodland with ash, alder, willow and other trees that thrive in wet habitats. Further downstream, the stream passes the restored Gravlev Lake, which is an important part of the valley’s natural landscape.

Along the way, Lindenborg Stream is fed by many of the well-known springs of Himmerland – including Gravlev Spring. The clean spring water helps give the stream its clear water and rich insect and invertebrate life, making the area especially interesting for nature lovers.

In Gravlev Valley, Lindenborg Stream was previously regulated, but the Danish Nature Agency has restored the stream to its old, more natural course. This has brought new life to the valley and created better conditions for plants, animals and visitors who want to experience the stream valley up close.

Lindenborg Stream and Valley is a wonderful place to discover the quieter side of Himmerland’s nature – with gently flowing water, green forest edges and landscapes that invite calm, reflection and small discoveries along the way.

Fishing in Lindenborg Å

Please note: Fishing is possible in certain parts of Lindenborg Stream. Always remember to check the current rules and fishing permits before bringing your fishing rod.

Sailing on Lindenborg Å

A trip on Lindenborg Å is a beautiful nature experience close to Rebild Bakker. Launch your canoe or paddleboard at Nybro and enjoy the journey from the foot of the hills through Gravlev Ådal.

Along the way, you glide through a peaceful landscape of open fields, tall reeds and old trees lining the stream. The route also takes you past Lille Blåkilde. Please note that it is not permitted to paddle up towards the spring. However, you are welcome to stop at the designated place and walk to the spring, where you can taste the clear spring water or fill your drinking bottle.

To protect nature and ensure good experiences for everyone, the User Council at Lindenborg Å has prepared a number of recommendations for considerate boating:

• Do not sail with vessels tied together
• Keep a good distance from other vessels
• Avoid racing on the stream
• Do not sail into banks or reed beds
• Sailing in springs and brooks is prohibited
• Take your waste home, or use the waste bags at the rest areas
• Avoid noise, and let nature provide the sounds
• Show consideration for anglers and fishing equipment
• Fishing from vessels is not permitted
• Launching, landing and going ashore are only allowed at the marked landing places
• Fishing huts and shelters are private property and may not be used
• Fires and barbecues are only allowed at designated rest and overnight areas
• Camping and overnight stays require direct permission from the landowner

By following these guidelines, you help ensure a pleasant trip on the water – with respect for nature, wildlife, landowners, anglers and other visitors.
