Skive’s Old Town Hall – A Symbol of Renewal
Skive’s Old Town Hall was built in 1845–46 as a council, court, and jailhouse for the town of Skive and the Salling districts. It was the first two-storey building in Skive and marked a turning point after 200 years of stagnation.
The building is a fine example of neoclassical architecture, with a symmetrical facade and balanced proportions. Until 1903, the ground floor housed the jail – allowing prisoners to speak with people on the town square through the windows.
Today, the Old Town Hall stands as a historical landmark and a testament to Skive’s growth and civic pride in the mid-19th century.
