Renewal of The Ramparts of Fredericia
The Fredericia Ramparts are set for renovation, which will revitalise the town's unique and historic landmark.
Architectural master plan for Fredericia Ramparts
In 2017, the architectural firm Erik Brandt Dam Arkitekter won the architectural bid for a renovation project that will beautify and integrate the Ramparts and fortress of Fredericia.
Because Fredericia Ramparts is a protected site, the renovation is overseen by the Ministry of Culture's Agency for Culture and Palaces
Cohesive ramparts
Today there are six passages through the Ramparts but only three town gates. Both Kongens Port and Sjællandsgade/Prangervej lack an actual gate, and pedestrian walkways will therefore be installed across the road so that pedestrians can walk around the Ramparts without interruption.
The new look of Fredericia Ramparts
The modern and sharp lines of the new walkways will provide a clear contrast to the Ramparts. The contrast will make any new additions stand out, marking the difference between the old and the new. Furthermore, the plan seeks to clarify and outline the structure of the Ramparts.
Time horizon
The first stage of the project is expected to be completed in 2020 and will be financed by a DKK 35 million donation from the A.P. Møller Foundation.
