Styrke og Snilde

Artist: Keld Moseholm

This large sculpture is characteristic of the artistic language that Keld Moseholm has worked with since the 1980s. The small, round figures populate many of his works. They are often engaged in some kind of activity, and this activity is frequently difficult, absurd, or even surreal.

The sculpture functions as a gate with two granite pillars and a horizontal lintel, which is being carried by one man. The other small man has a lever under the lintel. He holds it up by using his body as a counterweight.

The artist himself has said that they symbolize strength and cleverness, respectively. One might ask, who possesses which? Is it the one carrying, or the one with the lever, who is the wise one? And what is supposed to happen next? How will they lower the lintel, and does it even fit? What is their undertaking, after all?
