Fugledegård – Tissø Vikingecenter offers exhibitions, nature and culture in the heart of Naturpark Åmosen. Step into the world of the Vikings, explore the landscape and enjoy the quiet along the beautiful shores of Lake Tissø.

The centre lies in scenic surroundings on the shore of Tissø, where one of Denmark's most important Viking Age landscapes unfolds. A great chieftain's and royal seat once stood here, and power, craftsmanship and religious ritual shaped life around the lake. Buried in the ground was also the Tissø ring – the largest single gold find in Denmark – testifying to the wealth and importance of the place in the past.

In the main building you will find a free exhibition about the life, rituals and activities of the Vikings at Tissø. Children and adults alike get a vivid insight into the archaeological finds and the dramatic stories that have shaped the area over the centuries.

After the exhibition you can relax over a cup of coffee or look in at the small shop. Fugledegård also runs a range of nature and culture activities through the year, including guided tours where interpreters talk about the landscape, the wildlife and the archaeology. These require booking, but the area is easy to explore on your own.

Outside, a landscape of paths, viewpoints and discoveries awaits. You can walk in the area, visit the birdwatching tower, let the children loose on the Viking playground or take in the lake from the observation platform. If you want to stay longer, there are shelters, fire pits and an outdoor eating area – ideal for an overnight stay or a rest in nature.
